What Is The Difference Between N95, KN95, Medical Protective Masks, And Medical N95?

- Oct 28, 2022-

In general, N95/KN95 refers to masks (respirator) with non-oily particle filtration efficiency ≥95, medical protective masks/medical N95 considering the special requirements of the medical environment, on the basis of non-oily particle filtration efficiency ≥95, there is an additional liquid barrier and other requirements.

● N95: Compliant with NIOSH (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) "42CFR Part 84 Respiratory Protective Devices"; non-oily particle filtration efficiency ≥95.

● KN95: In line with my country's standard "GB2626-2006 Respiratory Protective Equipment - Self-priming Filter Type Anti-Particulate Respirator"; non-oily particle filtration efficiency ≥95.

The specific technical requirements and test methods of non-oily particle filtration efficiency in the two standards of N95 and KN95 are basically the same, and the protection effect is basically the same, but they belong to the standards of different countries. That is, N95≈KN95.

● Medical protective masks: In line with my country's standard "GB19083-2010 Medical Protective Masks"; according to the non-oily particle filtration efficiency ≥95, ≥99%, ≥99.97%, corresponding to "grade 1", "grade 2" and "grade 3"; There are requirements for liquid barrier, which has the function of blocking blood, body fluids and splashes, and no exhalation valve is allowed.

● Medical N95: generally refers to masks that reach the N95 level and meet medical standards; according to the US standard, they should obtain the N95 level certification of NIOSH in the United States, and obtain the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certification; according to the Chinese standard, they should meet the GB19083-2010 Medical protective masks.

There is no "N95" in my country's "GB19083-2010 Medical Protective Masks", but as long as it meets the GB19083-2010 standard, the filtration efficiency of N95 has definitely been reached. Therefore, some domestic medical protective masks have not obtained the US NIOSH. The certification is also often referred to as "Medical N95".

That is, medical protective masks ≈ medical N95.
