1. Some styles of masks have an exhalation valve, what function does it have?   

In hot and humid or poorly ventilated workplaces, or work environments with heavy workloads, masks with exhalation valves can be used to increase wearing comfort. The working principle of the exhalation valve is to blow open the valve plate by the positive pressure of the discharged air during exhalation to quickly expel the exhaled exhaust gas, moisture and heat out of the mask, reducing the stuffiness when using the mask; while the negative pressure during inhalation will The valve is automatically closed to avoid sucking in pollutants in the external environment.

2. Can activated carbon masks be used to prevent toxic and harmful gases or steam? 

Can't. Activated carbon masks are used to prevent coughs from particulate matter and absorb pungent odors, and cannot be used for toxic and harmful gases or vapors.
